If you’re renewing or cancelling your Dubai residence visa, be aware of a new requirement: all outstanding traffic fines must be settled first. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has introduced a new system that connects immigration services with the Dubai Police traffic fines database. As a result, visa applications will not be processed unless personal traffic fines are fully cleared.
This policy applies to most Dubai residence visa holders except those who are sponsored under Free Zone visas — they’re not affected by this (at least for now).
The government initiative aims to reinforce adherence to local regulations and is part of a broader initiative to enhance legal compliance and promote Dubai as a law-abiding city.
Employees must settle their traffic fines to prevent any delays with their immigration process. These fines are personal fines and can be paid via various channels, including the RTA application, Dubai Police application, or website.
